Travel Center
Travel to destinations across the globe including Africa, Asia, and parts of the Caribbean exposes travelers to potentially serious infectious diseases such as cholera, malaria, typhoid fever and meningococcal meningitis. The Winthrop Travel Center offers a variety of services ranging from destination-specific travel counseling to vaccinations and preventative measures for travel-related infections.
Vaccines offered include:
Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Japanese Encephalitis, Meningococcal Meningitis and Yellow Fever.
Preventative measures are offered for diseases including:
Malaria, Cholera, Typhoid Fever, Travelers Diarrhea.
The Winthrop Travel Center is a service of Winthrop Infectious Disease Associates. The center is staffed by a team of board-certified infectious disease clinicians. After a telephone interview during which travelers discuss their itinerary with the Center’s Travel Nurse Coordinator, an office consultation is arranged. During the consultation, infectious disease risks related to the individual’s itinerary are discussed with a physician, along with tips for staying healthy during the trip. Additionally, appropriate vaccinations and chemoprophylaxis are administered at that time.
Travelers are encouraged to plan an appointment with the Winthrop Travel Center at least 2 weeks prior to travel.
